Il Kiwi Giallo o Actinidia Deliciosa Golden è un albero da frutto di origine cinese ed appartenente alla famiglia delle Actinidiaceae. Si tratta di pianta rampicante a foglia caduca ed a rapido sviluppo dotata di fusti, di colore bruno-grigiastro, che possono raggiungere importanti altezze e che necessitano di supporti per arrampicarsi; le grandi foglie son di forma lanceolata, ma nel periodo della fioritura tendono ad essere tonde, di tonalità verde chiaro con i bordi seghettati. Fiorisce in tarda primavera quando sui vari rami sbocciano fiori profumati formati da petali di colore bianco con stami dorati, a cui fanno seguito i frutti. La maturazione avviene tra Ottobre e Novembre e questi si presentano di forma ovoidale con i bordi leggermente schiacciati, di colore marrone e sprovvisti di peluria; all’interno la polpa è di colore giallo oro con pochi semi e dal sapore zuccherino molto più dolce del Kiwi verde: può essere consumato fresco ma anche utilizzato per la preparazione di succhi o in pasticceria. E’ una pianta che soffre le gelate ed i venti forti prediligendo clima mite, ideale da mettere a dimora in zone particolarmente soleggiate ma benchè possa adattarsi anche a posizione in zone di mezz’ombra. Si consiglia terreno leggermente acido ricco di sostanze organiche e ben drenato con irrigazioni abbondanti per tutto il periodo di fioritura e maturazione, da diminuire in inverno evitando sempre la formazione di ristagni idrici.
