It blooms twice a year with striking red spikes: between late spring and early summer it flowers and blooms again in September-October.
Adapting to many types of soil, as long as they are cool, it is a shrub that can reach a height of three metres and a width of three metres.
It prefers full sun exposure, especially in areas with cold winter temperatures, which it nevertheless tolerates very well.
