Clivia Miniata is an indoor plant native to South Africa and belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. It is a slow-growing evergreen plant that in the wild can exceed one and a half metres in height, but when grown in pots it remains of modest size; it has a root system composed of thick, fleshy roots, while the leaves are ribbon-like, up to 70 centimetres long, dark green in colour and arranged in a rosette.
Flowering occurs from late summer until late autumn when a long stem rises from the centre of the rosette, supporting funnel-shaped flowers consisting of three orange petals and grouped together.
The Clivia is appreciated as an ornamental plant and furnishing accessory for flats and offices. It prefers exposures in particularly bright areas, avoiding direct contact with the sun's rays, but in warmer periods it can be moved outdoors to positions of partial shade. It needs soil that is rich in organic substances and well drained, while watering must be constant and frequent, especially in the hottest periods, paying close attention to water stagnation.
