Milk Cytognaster Cotoneaster Lacteus
Milk Quince, whose scientific name is Cotoneaster lacteus, is a semi-evergreen, medium-sized plant that originates from the eastern regions of China, and tolerates both sunny and shady areas.
Features
The leaves are oval, dark green above and light green to grey below. It is widely used for hedges and borders, and is also recommended for use in areas where there is a high level of pollution as it withstands city smog very well. It is also often cultivated in pots and is also used for reinforcing slopes and sloping terrain. Although it also tolerates low minimum temperatures well, it can partially or completely shed its leaves in extremely cold conditions, only to regenerate quickly with the arrival of spring.
Growth
It grows quickly and allows a well-formed plant in a short time, its maximum growth can be up to 1.5 metres (if not pruned) in height and as much in width, however, it also withstands restraining pruning, usually it is kept 70 cm-1 metre high for edging. The natural habit is expansive, with drooping branches at the ends.
Flowering
The white flowers bloom in June and precede small, red, ovoid-shaped fruits that develop in late summer and autumn. They are numerous and decorative, and last a long time on specimens.
Care and Maintenance
The Quince loves a moderate water supply, as it does not tolerate drought for long periods; the soil should never be too dry for more than 1 week. Watering should then be reduced in winter if there is heavy rainfall.

It possesses beautiful large, oval, wing-shaped leaves that can be up to 90 cm long, which when shaken by the wind resemble elephant ears, shiny light green in colour, with wavy margins. Fairly fast-growing plant, easy to keep in the house or on the veranda than the banana tree or other tropical plants, the important thing is that the temperature is above 8 degrees in winter and that it is away from cold and dry heat sources.
