Il pesco Cardinal è una varietà adatta alle coltivazioni biologiche poiché molto resistente alle malattie. Varietà di pesco autofertile, per produrre non ha bisogno di essere consociata assieme ad altre varietà. Maturazione 5 luglio. Pianta innestata su pesco selvatico (Prunus persica), chiamato anche “franco”.
ll fruit del pesco Cardinal è di medio-grossa pezzatura, forma sferica e colore rosso rubino cardinale su fondo giallo intenso brillante. Varietà a polpa gialla, non spicca (non si stacca dal nocciolo), consistente, profumata, molto succosa e dolce. Varietà molto produttiva, il frutto maturo è cedevole al tatto, si consuma fresco, poco adatto alla conservazione.

Probable mutation originating in Calabria, in the locality of Diamante (CS), from which the name is derived.
It is the most widespread citron cultivar in southern Italy.
Small, open-formed, expansive plant with moderately upright, dense, very spindly branches.
Has large, oblong leaves. Purple-red shoots and flowers, mainly arranged in clusters. The large, elongated ovate-ellipsoid shaped fruit has an apex with a wide umbo. Its peel, lemon-yellow when ripe, thick, smooth and ribbed, is used for the production of candied fruit. The pulp is scanty, almost dry, with an acid lemon-like flavour.
High quality lemon, the favourite of all cultivars by Annese Vito (and many connoisseurs)
