Fruit description:
The fruitfulness of the rowan tree is abundant and a harbinger of good omens. That is why, in ancient times, a rowan tree was never missing from a farmer's estate. The fruits are apples, which, as mentioned, can be sub-globose, like an apple, or pyriform. The rowan trees grow in groups on the same stalk and never reach a large size, 2-4 cm in diameter. Colouring varies with ripening, from reddish yellow to brown. The flesh is greenish, with membranous endocarp and large dark seeds. Ripening takes place in mid-autumn, but the fruit is sour and lappery when harvested. The Latin scientific name sorbus is in fact derived from the Celtic word sor, meaning sour. In order to make them edible, they are then amenitized, a post-harvest ripening.

Fruit description:
La fruttificazione del sorbo domestico è abbondante e foriera di buoni presagi. Per questo, anticamente, un sorbo non mancava mai in un podere contadino. I frutti sono dei pomi, i quali, come detto, possono essere di forma subglobosa, come una mela, o piriformi. Le sorbe crescono riunite in gruppi sullo stesso peduncolo e non raggiungono mai grandi dimensioni, 2-4 cm di diametro. La colorazione varia con la maturazione, passando dal giallo rossastro fino al bruno. La polpa è verdognola, con endocarpo membranaceo e grossi semi scuri. La maturazione avviene in pieno autunno, ma i frutti alla raccolta risultano troppo aspri e lapposi. Il nome scientifico latino sorbus deriva infatti dal termine celtico sor, che vuol dire aspro. Per renderli commestibili si pratica quindi l’ammezzimento, una maturazione post-raccolta.
Descrizione pianta:
l sorbo è un albero caducifoglia dall’aspetto imponente, non necessita di particolari cure, ma come tutte le piante, di irrigazione saltuaria durante le prime due stagioni. Sviluppa un tronco possente ed eretto, alto 15-20 m quando cresce in suoli poveri e asciutti, ma che può arrivare anche fino a 30 m in terreni ricchi e freschi. Il diametro del tronco arriva fino a 1 m. L’albero è famoso per il suo legno duro, compatto e resistente.
