The calla lily, a plant with splendid foliage, already decorative even without its flower, is not suitable for year-round cultivation in the ground in cold climates while it remains in vegetation for most of the year in milder areas. In pots it is proposed as a plant without a season because it can be easily forced. Between winter and spring it flowers. The coloured-flowered varieties have been selected to stop at a height of around 50 cm, forming tufts around 40 cm wide.
Leaves: large, waxy and pleasant to the touch, carried by long stems, often mottled white or silver.
Flowers: the inflorescence is formed by enveloping spathes enclosing a golden spadix. In the classic form the spathe is white, today there are many varieties with coloured flowers, often with contrasting variegation.
